Before joining McAdams, Mitchell served as the New York City Parks Commissioner, Chief Planning Officer in Raleigh, NC, and president of the American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners. Mitchell is one of the nation’s most celebrated urban thinkers. He was selected to Planetizen’s list of the 100 Most Influential Urbanists in the world and by UBM Future Cities as one of the top 100 City Innovators in the world.

Chris uses his passion to share lessons for cities wishing to follow their footsteps, and become better places to live, work and cycle.

Valerie Neilson is an urban planning professional passionate about multimodal transportation and creating healthy, sustainable, and economically vibrant communities. Valerie serves as the Executive Director at the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency (TPA), leading the agency’s efforts to plan, prioritize, and fund transportation projects that advance safe, efficient, and connected facilities for users of all ages and abilities in Palm Beach County. Valerie holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Studies and a Master’s Degree in Urban & Regional Planning from Florida State University.

He brings 35 years of public and private sector experience, is elected nationally to the Board of Directors, as Vice President, of the Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations, serves on the National Association of Regional Councils Executive Directors Council, is the Chair of the MPOAC Freight and Passenger Rail Committee, appointed by the Governor to serve on the Florida’s Freight Advisory Committee, and is Chair of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Transportation Management Agency.

She holds a Master of Science in Environmental & Urban Systems, with a specialty in transportation planning, as well as a Bachelor of Business Administration from Florida International University.
