When was the last time you chose to “dump the pump” and ride transit instead of driving? Each year, the Palm Beach Transportation Planning Agency (TPA) promotes this national day from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) to encourage people to ride public transportation, save money, and benefit the environment.
Palm Tran provides approximately 28,000 rides daily and Tri-Rail averages 15,000 weekday riders – a full recovery of ridership from the COVID-19 pandemic. Each of these public transportation systems offers a way for people visiting, working and living in Palm Beach County to get around car-free.
The TPA will recognize “Dump the Pump Day” on June 20 with a proclamation from its Governing Board. Palm Beach County also officially recognized June 20, 2024, as “Dump the Pump Day” through a proclamation with County Commissioners, Palm Tran, the South Florida Regional Transit Authority, and the TPA.
To encourage people interested in choosing transit during “Dump the Pump” Week, Palm Tran is offering promo code “Transit2024” from June 16 – 22 for a $5 credit on the Palm Tran Paradise Pass app.
One creative way to celebrate Dump the Pump Day this year is by using a Mobility-on-Demand (MOD) Zone. MOD Zones typically are used to close short gaps in people’s day, such as running from errand to errand, or connecting from a major transit provider such as Palm Tran or Tri-Rail to their destination. These zones offer transit options and local circulators and are a great way to get around the county without using a car. There are many ways to get around Palm Beach County within MOD Zones by using transit and not a car.
