Key Transportation Projects Across Palm Beach County in 2025

As 2025 begins, so does another exciting year of projects starting construction and others opening to the public. Several of the TPA projects implemented will be Palm Beach County’s first of their kind, including the first separated bicycle lanes on a county-owned roadway, the first separated bicycle lanes on an FDOT roadway, and Palm Tran’s will begin work on electrifying parts of their fleet! These projects are focused on making transportation safer and more accessible for everyone. We look forward to sharing these successes in the year ahead!

U.S. 1 Bridge in the Town of Jupiter

The FDOT led U.S. 1 Bridge replacement project is well underway, with one lane of traffic now open in each direction! When finished, the bridge will have two 11-foot travel lanes in each direction, 8-foot sidewalks and 7-foot bicycle lanes on both sides, making it safer and more accessible for everyone.  The bridge is expected to be fully open to traffic this spring, with the new Riverwalk connection under the bridge opening in the summer and the project fully completed in early 2026.

Lake Worth Rd. Reconstruction in the Village of Palm Springs

This project upgrades Lake Worth Road from Raulerson Drive to Palm Beach State College with a new right-turn lane, bicycle lanes separated from motor vehicles, new crosswalks, level boarding for transit, and resurfacing. It includes replacing underground utilities, improving sidewalks and driveways, and modifying medians for better safety. Additionally, signalized intersections, new signage, lighting, and pavement markings will improve traffic flow and safety. The anticipated completion is Spring 2025.

Atlantic Ave. Widening from SR 7 to Jog Rd. in Western Unincorporated Palm Beach County

This project will begin construction this year, with expected completion in 2028. Atlantic Ave. will be widened to six lanes to improve traffic flow and also include 6’ sidewalks and 7’  bicycle lanes, relocation of the L-34 canal, and enhanced drainage, lighting, and signals.  The project will also pilot the use of Zicla dividers along the bicycle lanes to increase safety by providing a physical separation from vehicle travel lanes. The anticipated completion is Summer 2028.

North Shore Pedestrian Bridge in the City of West Palm Beach

This project will construct a new pedestrian bridge over the Carver Canal, realign the sidewalk to the bridge, and rebuild drainage outfalls on both sides. It also includes replacing and upgrading signage affected by construction and adding lighting on both sides of the bridge. This project is partially funded through the TPA’s Transportation Alternatives (TA) program. The anticipated completion is Spring 2025.

Lowson Blvd in the City of Delray Beach

2025 will see the completion of a project on Lowson Blvd. from Dover Rd. to SE 5th Ave. (U.S. 1/Federal Highway) in Delray Beach. The project includes shared use paths and sidewalks, two pedestrian bridges, drainage improvements, signage, signalization, and pavement marking improvements. This project is partially funded through the TPA’s Local Initiatives (LI) program. The anticipated completion is February 2025.

Westgate Ave. in Unincorporated Palm Beach County/Westgate

The LI Program is also helping to fund the construction of designated bicycle lanes and widened sidewalks on Westgate Ave. from Congress Ave. to Wabasso Dr. This project also includes landscaping and lighting to create a safer and more enjoyable environment for bicyclists, pedestrians, and drivers. This project is currently under construction and expected to be completed in April 2025.

SR-80 Lighting from SR-15 TO CR-880 in Western Palm Beach County

The SR-80 lighting project is currently under construction. Florida Power & Light is currently laying the utility lines, and a few poles have already been constructed. It is anticipated that 40% of the lighting will be functional by the end of 2026.
